Job Description:
The Vice President of Campus Technology is responsible for centralizing and leading the Seminary’s various technology functions involving computing and information services. This position has overall responsibility for strategic and technical planning, organizational management and development, and financial budgeting and control.
In support of the Seminary’s mission and operations, the Vice President of Campus Technology will provide the oversight of all campus technology services in the following areas: Network and Computing Services, Enrollment Management Technology, Classroom Technology, Library Technology, Extension Campuses, Telecommunications, Web Sites, Programmers, Website Maintenance, and support services for various devices (smart phones, iPads, Kindle, and other emerging technologies).
In particular, the Vice President will emphasize seamless integration and a strong service orientation for client services across the broad and expanding academic and administrative information technology needs of Southern Seminary.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
The employee in this position will have the following essential job functions:
• Familiar with Google Applications and excited about cloud computing
• Open and nimble to dual platforms of Mac and PC
• Investigate and initiate game changing ideas in the technology space
• Willing to test the bleeding edge of technology
• Provide leadership and management in the establishment and achievement of long range and strategic objectives for each reporting function
• Responsible for building and facilitating positive relationships with academic faculty and staff
• Promote modern, state-of-the-art, cost effective computing campus-wide within the limits imposed by the approved budget
• Pursue technology training and a learner aptitude for future available technology
• Ensure the Seminary’s compliance in Campus Technology for its accreditation processes
• Serve as an advocate by promoting the use and support of innovative and effective uses of technology by students, faculty and administrative staff
• Lead the development of a unified vision uniting the learning management system, portal, email, web and library resources into a cohesive and comprehensive system for delivery to Southern Seminary
• Responsible for initiating and managing the implementation of strategic campus-wide technology initiatives for enhancement of teaching and learning, including planning, managing budgets, securing and organizing needed personnel and problem solving
• Responsible for maintaining, scrutinizing, safeguarding and testing of the security of all the Seminary’s databases, technology systems, and backup systems.
• Functions as liaison with the deans, faculty, executive staff, administrative staff, the library, and college and department IT staff
• Provide effective mentoring/coaching to direct reports to: 1) enhance their professional development and job knowledge; 2) encourage self-development activities throughout the staff; and 3) encourage and facilitate individual self-development plans
• Establish and manage cost center budgets, projects new account expenses to reflect staff changes, new equipment or technology, operating changes (e.g. duplication, supplies, travel, training, etc.)
• Develop and maintain appropriate backup solutions and systems necessary to ensure continuing availability and/or recovery of the seminary’s content and records
• Develop and maintain proactive and qualified staff with unique competencies to serve the Seminary’s technical needs
