Bethel College: Admission Counselor
ADMISSION COUNSELOR
Full-time  

Bethel College seeks a fulltime admission professional dedicated to promoting Bethel’s faith based, student-focused learning community who can work in partnership with various academic departments and programs to recruit prospective students.   Reporting to the Director of Undergraduate Admission, the primary task of the incumbent is to maintain systematic contact (follow-up) with each prospective student in their territory.  This will be accomplished through phone calls, letters, electronic mail, personal visits and other activities.   

Additional responsibilities may include:
  • Conducting on-campus interviews and tours for campus visitors which may include: youth groups; school groups; pastors; prospective students and their parents.
  • Conducting off-campus visits to secondary schools, churches, junior colleges and other educational institutions within assigned areas;
  • Conducting meetings with prospective students, guidance counselors, pastors and student service agencies;
  • Representing Bethel College at college fairs, youth groups, receptions and camps local; represent the college at state and national admission and church related organizations.
  • Developing working relationship with high school guidance counselors, pastors and other influencers in assigned territory.
  • Assisting or coordinating activities involved in the recruitment and selection of student applicants representing a targeted constituency for admission to Bethel College; serve as resource for other Admission Office staff regarding programs or issues affecting constituency groups; serve as reader for all applications from constituency group to ensure consistent review of qualifications.
  • Analyzing qualifications of prospective students utilizing established college admission standards, guidelines and criteria, reviewing unusual circumstances with supervisor as appropriate; submit evaluations and recommendations to director of admission regarding admissibility of applicants.
  • Corresponding with prospective students, applicants, college alumni, guidance counselors, members of the college community, and others seeking information on admission standards, academic and non-academic programs and student activities.
  • Assisting or coordinating others and participate in special areas of responsibility relating to constituency group, including but not limited to, the evaluation and selection of recipients for named and endowed scholarships, preparation of publications, design and evaluation of statistical studies, and the design and coordinator of special events/programs.
  • Assisting or coordinating one or more of the following admission activities/events: preview days, campus tours, student summer teams, telecounseling, or other events
  • Liaison activities with academic deans and department heads concerning recruitment and selection of students in their respective academic areas.
  • Generating reports from the administrative database to inform decisions.
  • Managing student workers as requested or needed.
  • May conduct Saturday interviews.
Requirements include a bachelor’s degree, excellent communication and project management, skills, valid driver’s license and good driving record. Seasonal frequent overnight and same-day business travel required with occasional night and weekend hours.  The nature of the duties will require some weekend, evening, and travel hours beyond the normal 40-hour workweek.
