GENERAL SUMMARY To provide overall fundraising effort including planning, management and direction to the Development projects in support of a private Christian school in Orange County. The position oversees all fundraising efforts including: major gifts, individual gifts, estate gifts, foundation and corporate donations, direct mail and events to support capital campaigns, annual campaigns, endowment campaigns, and alumni campaigns. Communicates the school’s ethics, demonstrates a quality of spiritual life that reflects Jesus Christ and is an example to others. Dignifies the donor as a gift from God. JOB DESCRIPTION Administrative Expectations Support the school and its leadership. Constantly uphold our mission statement. Meet weekly with Futures team to discuss issues in the running of the school. Meet weekly with the Development team to oversee the coordination advancement, marketing, donor recruiting, and retention efforts. Regularly review and update gift acceptance and recognition policies and procedures. Two Development staff members report to this position; a clerical Assistant and a Development Manager who oversees the larger events and Alumni Association. Conduct annual job performance evaluations on department staff. Development · Develops a giving program to meet budget and student education needs. · Collaborate with the Headmaster and Development Committee in the setting of fundraising goals for each fiscal year. · Develop and manage department expenditure budget for each fiscal year. · Participates with the Headmaster, site administrators and the school board in formulating organizational fundraising policies and establishing long-range development goals. · Designs, directs and implements major gift campaigns. · Researches and identifies major prospects and implements suitable cultivation efforts for potential donors. · Research, build, and maintain relationships with volunteers, parents, alumni, prospects, donors, local government and business leaders, and others whose understanding of and commitment to the School is desirable for the institution's vitality and success. · Solicits selected prospective new donors and current donors with personal follow through. · Develops proposals for major donors, including individuals, foundations and corporations. · Work actively with the Board and other volunteer leaders, in keeping with the school’s philosophy of peer cultivation and solicitation. · Work with the Development Committee of the Board to nominate potential donors and fundraisers to serve on the committee. · Develops and administers an extensive tracking system for donor follow through and appreciation. · Coordinates and oversees the enlistment and training of key volunteer solicitors. · Represents the school to various groups through speaking engagements, socials and other fundraising events. · Provides appropriate, direct personal support for the solicitation efforts of the Headmaster, administrators, volunteers and the school board, including accompanying them on their calls (when appropriate) and preparing detailed briefings for such visits and follow-up reports. · Prepares regular progress reports on major individual gift solicitations and program activities, as well as an annual report on the program. · Develops plans to increase the teacher endowment fund; communicate information about this fund to donor group(s). · Networks with other school development officers, attend workshops for professional growth, subscribes to and reads professional journals in school development. · Communicates development goals and objectives of the school through newsletters, fund raising appeals and brochures. · Oversees donor records and files, insuring proper receipting for tax purposes. · Oversees development-related events such as auctions, golf fundraisers and grand parents’ day. · Provides spiritual leadership, guidance, active participation in worship and prayer partnership in support of the school. Alumni Programs · Develops and builds alumni relations to communicate with alumni, to solicit alumni giving, and to support programs and events that develop this relationship. · Work with Associate Director of Development to plan, organize and implement receptions and reunions and other special events at the school. · Research and profile the background of all alumni. Marketing · Work with the Futures Team (Admissions, Communication, Development) to formulate a marketing plan that will enable the school to better market the school. Marketing: Communications · Assist Director of Communications in monitoring all major internal and external communications to insure consistency. Serve as a clearinghouse for media covering events to project a consistent and positive image of the school to its alumni, parents, students, faculty, friends, admission prospects, the local community, and beyond. · Work with Director of Communications in developing an advertisement calendar so that annual ads and promotions are reviewed and deployed in a timely manner · Assist Director of Communication in creating admission and development materials. · Assist Director of Communication in performing market research of area “independent schools” promotional materials (including websites) and independent school trends nationally. Employment: 12 months, 4 weeks vacation Evaluation: Performance evaluation to be conducted annually by Headmaster.
