Kuyper College: Admissions Counselor
Description
Kuyper College, a Christian college located in Grand Rapids, MI is seeking applications for the position of Admissions Counselor. As a member of the Admissions and Financial Aid team, the Admissions Counselor guides prospective student applicants and their families through the admissions and financial aid process. The Admissions Counselor communicates the mission of Kuyper College to potential students, their parents, and other people of influence, generating and collecting information from prospective students who are interested in ministry and service.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate possesses a Bachelors Degree, exceptional written and oral communication skills, is self-motivated and creative and has enthusiasm for ministry-focused Christian higher education.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.
A)       In the area of Administration, the Admissions Counselor shall:
·          Maintain accurate and timely records of all student and parent contact and follow-up (phone, email, fax, in-person, etc.) in office database.  Contact will include phone calls, emails, faxes, in-person meetings, and personal written and electronic communication.
·          Prepare application files for recommendation for acceptance or denial and scholarship eligibility.
·         Train, monitor, motivate, and supervise a team of student employees to assist with contacting prospects and applicants as appropriate throughout the admissions process.
·         Arrange, schedule, and assess fall and spring recruitment travel to effectively identify and recruit prospective students.  Counselor shall maintain accurate, timely travel records and reports to assist in future travel planning.
·         Assist in developing recruitment materials and strategies, mailing information to contacts, coordinating and implementing recruitment events, designing and assessing recruitment strategies, and working on other such tasks as may be assigned. 

B)      In the area of Counseling and Student Orientation, the Admissions Counselor shall:
·          Counsel prospective students and parents regarding general college search process, all aspects of college life, likelihood of acceptance and academic success at Kuyper.
·          Uphold the Principles of Good Practice for admissions counseling and recruiting according to the North American Coalition for Christian Admissions Professionals and the National Association for College Admission Counseling.
·          Understand and present Kuyper College and reformed philosophy, beliefs, distinctive characteristics, and objectives to prospective students, parents, and influencers.
·          Maintain current knowledge of Kuyper programs, activities, and opportunities and effectively communicate these to prospective students and parents.
·         Participate in the planning and implementation of on-campus and off-campus admissions, recruitment, financial aid, and orientation events.
·         Counsel students and parents through the admissions and financial aid process.
·         Maintain regular, monthly contact with all applicants regarding admissions and enrollment information.  Tele-counseling requires that counselors seasonally be present in the office during evenings in fall, winter, and spring as necessary.
·         Respond promptly to student and parent inquiries & requests.
·         Connect prospective students and parents with other college resources, including faculty, student life, registrar’s office, and business office. 

C)      In the area of Recruiting, the Admissions Counselor shall:
·         Exercise discretion and independent judgment in planning and implementing a strategy for territory management to meet assigned recruitment goals by reviewing current and historical enrollment and geographic data to develop sources and contacts for reaching potential students.  Counselor is responsible for results.
·          Within an assigned region, visit, according to pre-established schedule, churches, high schools, two-year colleges, college fairs and similar sources to develop Kuyper visibility and recruit student applicants.  Fall and spring travel will require 14-17 weeks of time on the road coordinated with weekly presence on campus to assist with on-campus events.
·         Develop a highly flexible presentation concerning the college and its programs; present the program to individuals and groups in a manner designed to stimulate and motivate applicants.
·         Connect with key influencers and obtain and record referrals for prospective ministry students from guidance counselors, teachers, pastors, youth pastors, para-church leaders, and other influencers in the college decision process.
·         Maintain contact with prospects and applicants via phone, mail, home visits, fax, e-mail, et cetera.
·         Assist in various projects and responsibilities as assigned.  Projects will vary based upon the experiences, special interests and strengths of individuals working as Admissions Counselors, and include tele-counseling program supervision, communications management, and visit coordination.
