ADMISSIONS COUNSELOR

Mount Vernon Nazarene University exists to shape lives through educating the whole person and cultivating Christ-likeness for lifelong learning and service.

Responsibilities include:
• Assisting in the execution of the university’s prospective student recruitment plan, including the coordination of campus-based initiatives, representative travel, special programs, and professional meetings;
• Representing MVNU in assigned geographic regions at high schools, college fairs, churches, summer camps, and various youth events;
• Effectively communicating the academic programs of MVNU to prospective students, high school counselors, alumni, pastors, and other relevant audiences;
•  Following up on prospective students with phone calls, personal notes, letters, email, and other appropriate correspondence;
•  Working closely with the Student Financial Services, Registrar’s, Enrollment Events offices to provide accurate information concerning all aspects of the financial aid and registration/confirmation processes;
•  Participating in the planning and implementation of on-campus and off-campus admissions and recruitment events;
• Conducting on-campus visit interviews with prospective students and their parents;
• Evaluating applicant files for the recommendation of admissions decisions;
• Influencing prospective student decisions positively toward enrollment at MVNU.

Qualifications needed:
• Evidence of active church involvement and an evangelical Statement of Faith;
• Bachelor’s degree required, preference given to MVNU alumni and to graduates of  CCCU institutions;
• Commitment to and an ability to articulate the mission and vision of MVNU and value of Christian higher education within the broader educational marketplace;
• Ability to travel for extended periods and to work hours outside of the traditional work day;
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
• Demonstrated organizational self-initiated planning skills, with a high level of personal integrity and professionalism; 
• Ability and desire to work with culturally diverse populations;
• An appropriate competence and comfort level with typical office computer software;
• A valid driver’s license and ability to transport and set up displays and materials.
