Position Profile – Vice-President, Student Development

Summary

The VP Student Development works collaboratively with students, staff, and faculty to foster the outworking of our mission in the lives of our students. The Student Development division aims to nurture student discipleship, enhance student learning, and foster student leadership and service. At the heart of its mission Briercrest College and Seminary calls students to live as fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ.

Qualifications

Must be a mature follower/disciple of Christ.
Must have strong pastoral gifts and five years of experience in Student Development work.
Must have a functional knowledge of the developmental stages of young adults through higher education.
Must be able to identify, develop and implement models for discipleship, leadership
development, experiential learning, and safeguarding.
Should have completed a terminal degree (but outstanding candidates with a Masters degree may be considered).
Must be familiar with the Christian College Movement and Student Development philosophy.
Must be able to lead at a senior level of the organization, able to shape culture and behavior within Student Development and across the organization/learning community.

Desired Outcomes and Responsibilities

Is responsible to actively support and promote the Briercrest College & Seminary vision and mission.
Is responsible to call for a Biblical discipleship which will result in students knowing the power of the Gospel for sanctification and fruitfulness.
Is responsible to work in partnership with our Education Division to ensure that clear goals, objectives, processes and outcomes for experiential learning are established, maintained and practiced in the high school, college and seminary.
Is responsible to cultivate a climate that supports academic success for each of the schools.
Is responsible to foster belonging and trust in students resulting in a positive experience of this learning community that draws in new students, increases retention for existing students, and helps to set public confidence in God’s Kingdom work for Briercrest College & Seminary.
Is responsible to make sure that a Student Responsibilities and Expectations document is set, communicated and maintained for each of the schools.
Is responsible to make sure that appropriate safeguarding policy is developed and practiced throughout the schools and especially within the Student Development Department.
Is responsible for the training and development of student leadership, including student government in the high school and college.

Team Relationships

The VP Student Development, reports directly to the President, is a member of the President’s Cabinet, and leads the Student Development Division including Residence Life, Athletics, Wellness, Student Government, Student Activities, and Youth Quake.
