Gardner-Webb University : Admission Counselor

JOB TITLE: Admission Counselor

SUPERVISOR: Assistant Vice President of Undergraduate Admission

ESSENTIAL DUTY AND RESPONSIBILITY IS TO ASSIST WITH ALL ASPECTS OF STUDENT RECRUITMENT AND ENROLLMENT MANAGEMENT FOR UNDERGRADUATE ADMISSION BY PERFORMING THE FOLLOWING:

Arrange and execute up to 12 weeks of recruitment travel.

• Act as a spokesperson for the institution at college fairs.

• Coordinate and conduct private visits to high schools in territory.

• Conduct interviews with visiting students, parents, and groups.

• Attend admission functions held in the evenings and weekends.

• Coordinate specific projects as assigned.

• Be a peer leader/mentor for new admission counselors.

• Maintain proper communication and follow-up with all applicants through AdmitGold.

• Build and maintain relationships with prospective students, serving as a primary resource for them throughout the admissions process.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. He/she must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook. He/she must possess personal characteristics and values consistent with the mission of GWU: friendly, approachable, patient, caring, flexible, professional, self-directed, trustworthy, committed to task, and the ability to maintain confidentiality and privacy.

EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s degree from a four year regionally accredited college or university.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

He/she should possess strong oral and written communication skills. Maintaining frequent contact with prospective students is essential to job success. Must possess the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from students, families, groups, school administrators, and the general public. Must have the ability to maintain the highest form of professionalism at all times and under various circumstances.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Individual must have the ability and be licensed to operate a motor vehicle. Must be able to lift and transport up to 50 pounds.

The Office of Undergraduate Admissions is seeking an innovative, energetic, and dynamic individual for the position of Admissions Counselor. Primary responsibilities include, but not limited to, territory management through travel, development of recruitment strategies, communication with prospective students, and on and off-campus activities. This individual is an integral part of the Undergraduate Admissions Team and should possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal as well as strong interpersonal skills.
