Position Summary

The Director of Financial Aid has responsibility for administering Federal Title IV student assistance programs in compliance with current Federal Regulations, for administering State of Washington financial aid programs in compliance with the regulations governing state programs, for administering Northwest University’s institutional scholarships, grants, and tuition discounts according to institutional policies. The Director works closely with the Assistant Vice President for Enrollment in developing awarding policies and oversight of institutional funds.

Essential Functions

1. Responsible for the interpretation and implementation of federal student aid regulations; responsible for completion of the Fiscal Operations Report and Application to Participate (FISAP); responsible for the financial aid portion of the annual federal institutional audit (A-133); updates the Program Participation Agreement due to changes such as new location, new programs, and changes in key positions at the university.

2. Responsible for the implementation, administration, and reconciliation of the Federal Direct Student Loan Program.

3. Administers institutional funds according to policy; establishes institutional awarding policies in collaboration with supervisor to maximize enrollment.

4. Responsible for the interpretation and implementation of State student aid regulations as they pertain to the Washington State Need Grant, Washington State Work Study Program, and other state programs.

5. Responsible for hiring, supervising, training and evaluation of a staff of five full-time employees and three student employees.

6. Serves as Chair of Northwest University’s Scholarship Committee: directs selection of NU endowed scholarship recipients and Act Six recipients; coordinates scholarship reception; establishes and implements programming for Presidential and Dean Scholars.

7. Responsible for maintaining financial aid computer software (College Board’s PowerFaids) with the assistance of the Information Services department; responsible for establishing institutional parameters and annual update.

8. Represents NU to various constituencies including professional organizations, state and federal entities, and parents and students.

9. In collaboration with the Provost and the Academic Success Office monitors and enforces Satisfactory Academic Progress policy.

10. Other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience/Skills
1. Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred.
2. Minimum five years experience in financial aid, including two years in a supervisory capacity.
3. Thorough knowledge of all financial aid programs and related legislation, regulations and reporting procedures.
4. Demonstrated commitment to maintaining a safe work environment free of harassment, violence, and unlawful discrimination.
5. Proven ability to communicate effectively, get along well with co-workers, and deal effectively and professionally with colleagues.
