Asbury Students Trek to NYC
Students in a public relations course and a leadership course at Asbury College (KY) got special treat on a class trip to New York City in May 2007. Sixteen students visited popular sites and interacted with professionals at the top of their fields including Katie Couric, CBS news anchor, and Dianna Word, who is in charge of all employment at Ogilvy, an international public relations firm with offices in more than 100 countries.



Vanguard Receives Musical Gift
Composer Ralph Carmichael has donated 78 musical scores to Vanguard University (CA), including one written for Nat King Cole’s appearance on The Bing Crosby Show and scores for I Love Lucy, the movies The Blob and The Cross and the Switchblade, and commercials for products such as Chevrolet and Pepsodent. Carmichael hopes to eventually donate his entire library of more than 3000 original arrangements to Vanguard.

Northwestern Revamps Rowenhorst
Northwestern College (IA) has completed a $5 million renovation of its Rowenhorst Student Center resulting in a student services mall with lounge areas as well as access to an expanded bookstore and post office, a cyber café with patio seating, and health and counseling services. A 30-foot-wide section of the roof was raised six feet and rimmed with windows, adding height and light to the interior of the building.




One President In, One President Out

 

Dr. Gary Streit is the new president of Malone College (OH), the institution’s twelfth president.


Cornerstone University (MI) president Rex Rogers has announced his plans to leave the institution in May 2008. Rogers became president of what was then known as Grand Rapids Baptist College in 1991.

Gordon Supporters Make Huge Endowment Gift
The Boston Herald reports that Gordon College (MA) has received a $60 million endowment gift, the largest in its history, from a California couple with two grandchildren enrolled at the school. The donation comes from a real estate developer and his wife and nearly triples the school’s endowment of $33 million. Gordon College will officially rename its Wenham campus the Dale E. and Sarah Ann Fowler Campus, after the donors. The Fowlers also pledged to fund all expenses for an admissions recruiter in southern California, where they live.



Olivet Gets New Enrollment Leader

Susan Wolff has been appointed director of admissions at Olivet Nazarene University (IL). She formerly was Olivet’s director of alumni relations, an admissions counselor, campus visit coordinator and executive assistant to the president.

New Programs at NACCAP Schools
Olivet Nazarene University (IL) now offers a Master of Arts degree in youth ministry, making it the first Nazarene school to offer such a program.

Roberts Wesleyan University (NY) has launched an accelerated master’s degree program in strategic marketing, beginning September 2007, designed for marketing, communications and public relations professionals.


Beginning in Fall 2007, Northwestern College (IA) will offer three new majors in Cinema and Digital Video, Journalism and Public Relations.

NACCAP Sporting Successes
On November 25, 2006, the women’s soccer team at Wheaton College (IL) captured their second NCAA Division III national championship in three years, concluding the season with a record of 24-2.

Calvin College (MI) diver Erica Deur was named NCAA Division III Diver of the Year and Calvin diving coach Aaron Paskvan was selected Diving Coach of the Year.
